We focus on a number of areas including conservation, research, breeding of species and hybrids, culture, shows, displays and judging, photography, learning about the Australian flora and environment, and field excursions. We publish reports and file lawsuits to raise public awareness about vendors and the enormous contribution they make to our city. itself is through subscription to The Orchadian, the quarterly ANOS journal that provides members with articles spanning all of the areas above. They receive exorbitant tickets for minor violations like vending too close to a crosswalk — more than any big businesses are required to pay for similar violations. There are as many as 20,000 street vendors in New York City — hot dog vendors, flower vendors, t-shirt vendors, street artists, fancy food trucks, and many others. Some are US military veterans who served their country. Membership also provides many opportunities to network with likeminded enthusiasts and experts, grow and source plants, keep up to date with what is happening across the broad field of interest, as well as voting rights at the Annual General Meeting. We hold meetings where we plan collective actions for getting our voices heard. Finally, we help vendors grow their businesses by linking them with small business training and loans.
Most members belong to one of our affiliated ANOS groups, but membership of ANOS Inc. They have been denied access to vending licenses. Many streets have been closed to them at the urging of powerful business groups. Suggestions about ways to address the interests of members, website improvement, and increasing information that may be of interest to other members are always welcome. They work long hours under harsh conditions, asking for nothing more than a chance to sell their goods on the public sidewalk. The Street Vendor Project is part of the Urban Justice Center, a non-profit organization that provides legal representation and advocacy to various marginalized groups of New Yorkers. They are small businesspeople struggling to make ends meet. Communication is a vital link in the success of our widespread society, and we are actively working to improve our website to provide more relevant and practical information, and improve links to the Council. We reach out to vendors in the streets and storage garages and teach them about their legal rights and responsibilities.
